About Communities Unlimited

Communities Unlimited began in 2014 by bringing together the services of Community Resource Group and alt.Consulting, two successful and experienced nonprofit organizations who have earned a reputation for their work with small businesses and communities.

As Communities Unlimited, our shared goal is to provide deep and lasting impact in communities by combining fundamental infrastructure services with economic entrepreneurial growth strategies.

About the Partners

Community Resource Group (CRG) has a 39-year history of providing technical assistance to help small rural communities solve water and wastewater problems and helping families secure a better future through several means, including access to safe and affordable housing.

CRG is the southern regional affiliate, and founding member of the Rural Community Assistance Partnership, Inc. (RCAP), which is the oldest nonprofit service-delivery network in the nation providing field-based, on-site assistance to small towns and rural communities by addressing community facility problems and needs.

CRG began making loans in 1992 and was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) in 2001.  More than 3,200 loans totaling more than $42 million to help communities ensure the delivery of safe drinking water,  provision of safe affordable housing for low income families, and other needed community and individual services.

alt.Consulting is a non-profit organization with a unique approach to delivering small business services. Since opening our first office in 1998 in the Delta, we’ve helped almost 4,000 small businesses grow, offer jobs, and create new wealth in their Delta communities. Our on-site, in-depth consulting services combined with our innovative lending programs help our clients to solve problems and grown their business.

alt.Consulting is more than just small business consultants. We continuously explore new solutions to help communities become self-sufficient by focusing on emerging technology and trends in renewable energy and energy efficiency that will create wealth in rural communities and safeguard the environment.

In 2011 alt.Consulting was certified as a CDFI and has loaned $700,000 to more than 50 small businesses to help them grow and thrive.

By combining our strengths and services we are unifying the building blocks needed to create vibrant and prosperous communities. Communities Unlimited serves seven southern states: Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Alabama. This is an area that includes 60% of this country’s persistently poor counties, including large percentages of African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans.

The mission of Communities Unlimited is to move rural and under-resourced communities in areas of persistent poverty to sustainable prosperity.
